Cocaine Superhighway
Well hot damn. Post number 001. Not too keen on this whole world wide interweb thing, but here she goes just the same. With any luck the below links will take you to magical things like chocolate rainbows and six-legged unicorns that secrete guacamole, but I digress. Let's just hope that nothing catches on fire shall we, and that I can pay attention long enough to finish..what?
Dan Melchior has been around for ages (I think that's him with Mike Patton's goatee), but more importantly I poached the title of this song for my own purposes. Give it a listen, it's been stuck in my head all day. I'm singing "it's really got it's hooks in you" in the bathtub, for reals:
Dan Melchior's Broke Revue-'Dumb Nostalgia' mp3
This track is from the Yeti magazine which comes with a cd of some really great music. Yeti Three is their third publication in what seems like a dozen years, but the writing is clearly their labor of love. This particular issue is great and the cd alone is worth the thirteen bucks. There is a veiled threat to start putting this out three times a year, which would save me calling my pals in the Portland and having them throw rocks at the Yeti offices. Get yours at Kims or Other Music in NY or here.
Here are a few more from Yeti:
From a teenaged Devendra Banhart cackling into a broken four-track. I like this one. It makes me feel right with the world, just a little
Devendra Banhart-'Oh Me Oh MY The Way The Day Goes By (Demo)' mp3
From the Colin Meloy Sings Morrissey EP that was limited to four pressings or some such nonsense here's everyday is like sunday. Go cry into your cup of tea.
Colin Meloy-'Everyday Is Like Sunday (Live)' mp3
New Mogwai record 'Mr Beast' out March 7th and unless you live in a goddamn tree you'll get it up ya because you know it's the right thing to do. Also, catch the 'gwai in NY (Avalon) on March 6th. By 'catch' I mean sell your body to some dick on craig's list because the show is wicked sold out, but it's honestly worth a tender romp with a disease-free stranger if you ask me. Word on the street is their proposed stage set includes a weeping christ. I shit you not.
Matador has 'Folk Death 95' for download, as well as the video for 'Hunted by a Freak' which brings a tear to the old eye.
