The Easter Bunny Hates You

It's true. That furry little bastard doesn't like you one bit. Can't say I blame him.

He likes me though.

It was close to 80 degrees yesterday. It felt like New York came out of a coma. It was just a brief few hours where the city became a tolerable place to be, and it was great. So, I've been out taking in a bit of the rock the past few nights. My pal Blasco brought the pain at Sin-e'. He shredded (I mean, check the guitar, how can you not shred?) some painfully introspective numbers to six or seven drunks at the bar. It was pretty amazing.

Friday I went to see Clap You Hands Say Yeah at the Bowery. I went as a V.I.P. of sorts, and it was a shame because those people are always the ones who sit, unimpressed, at their private tables, vaguely interested in the band, and then drink all of the band's beer in the dressing room and say stupid things that always come across as a backhanded compliment. That was me, just for a night.

I have to say that I wasn't bowled over by the show. I don't love the band, or maybe am not as familiar with them as many in the crowd. I did get the sense, however, that it was a really great moment. The band were pretty polished from non-stop touring, and the crowd were ape-tits from the moment they stepped onstage, singing along to every song, even the new ones that have been making the interweb rounds. It's uncommon to see a crowd so unabashedly wild for a band, especially in New York. It seemed like a great event where the combination of time, place and people combined to make a great show. It's not something you see very often, and I was thankful to have been there.

Last night Longwave played the Mercury Lounge. I hadn't seen them in ages, and it was a blast. They were showed up only by the mini Michael Jackson in the Union Square subway station. I've never seen a bigger crowd of people watching anything there. To be fair, most of it is some guy blowing on a didgeridoo or playing steel drums along to an instrumental Gwen Stefani track, but this was mind-blowing.

Enjoy the cojones
